Annie Lee Jackson

Annie Lee “Granny” Jackson, a vibrant 89-year-old resident of Wetumpka, Alabama, peacefully departed this life on Monday, December 30, 2024, in the comfort of her own home. Annie Lee Jackson was born June 24, 1935, to the late Richard and Annie Maud Barker of Tallassee, Alabama. Annie graduated from the Elmore County Training School in Wetumpka, Alabama. She was a member of the Rehobeth Missionary Baptist Church before meeting the love of her life and joining The Loving Peace Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as President of the Usher Board and Mother of the church. Annie Lee was preceded in death by her devoted husband, the late James Jackson Sr., whose love and companionship spanned nearly five decades. She also mourned the loss of her cherished youngest son, the late Tywon Jackson, who held a very special place in her heart. Annie Lee’s legacy lives on through her daughters: Barbara Ann Jackson, Annie M. Jackson, a loving stepdaughter, Jesse Mae Zimmerman, who all reside in Montgomery, Alabama, and Ida (Rodney) Brisbon and Claudetta (David) Hall, both of Wetumpka, Alabama, and her daughter-in-law, LaFaye Jackson of Montgomery, Alabama. Her family includes two devoted sons, James (Debra) Jackson Jr. and Jwon (Bonnie) Jackson, all of Montgomery, Alabama. She is also remembered by her three sisters: Betty (James) Tucker and Zenolia Barker, both from Chicago, Illinois, and Elizabeth Griffin from Tallassee, Alabama. Along with her sister-in-law Janice Jackson, of Tallassee, Alabama, brothers-in-law, Edward Jackson and Calvin (Earline) Jackson of Montgomery, Alabama. Annie Lee was surrounded by a loving village that she helped raise, which includes 15 grandchildren: Dwight, Ronsetta, Cherise, Jamal, JaQuinta, Shurkita, Nikesha, RJ, Anita, Anitra, TJ, Kendra, LaQuanta, Christian and Jasmyne, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren all of whom filled her life with so much joy and laughter. She also shared a special bond with her lovely goddaughter, Christine (Sam) Howard, and her three cherished godchildren, Keith, Kerry, and Brigitte who were a very special part of her life. Annie Lee had an abundance of close and cherished friends, so many that it would be impossible to name them all on this page. Her love for conversation and laughter was unparalleled; she enjoyed long chats on the phone, where her infectious laughter could light up even the darkest day. Many of you had the joy of speaking with her daily—sometimes even multiple times—especially when she would forget to ask you something or share a funny story. You know who you are, and you surely remember the unique and heartfelt connection you shared with her. Truly, a beautiful flower has been added to God's heavenly garden. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Loving Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 Peace Church Rd, Wetumpka, Alabama 36093. Viewing will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Eunice M. Mitchell Memorial Chapel (Hillside), 3274 Central Plank Rd, Wetumpka, Alabama 36092.
