Mrs. Annie Ruth Milliner was born on March 3, 1928, in Deatsville, Alabama, to the late Mack and Mattie Ruth Milliner. She was one of 10 children. Annie departed this life on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the age of 93-years-old. She was preceded in death by her siblings: sister, Beatrice Lollar, brothers, Bernard, James DeWitt (JD), Edwin, Leslie, Rob and Morris. Annie was raised in Deatsville, Alabama where she attended and graduated from North Highland High School in Prattville, Alabama. While in school, she met the love of her life, James Thomas Laskey. James and Ann were married on August 3, 1948, and from their union they had 10 children. Annie gave her life to Christ at a young age where she served at Saint James Baptist Church in Deatsville, Alabama and regardless of where she lived, her commitment to serving Christ was always prominent in her life. While living in Washington, DC, she was a dedicated member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Washington, DC. She and her family walked the five blocks to and from church each Sunday. While living in Manassas, Virginia, she and her family joined First Baptist Church, in Manassas, Virginia. Finally, when she retired and moved back home to Alabama, she devoted her time to serving and restoring her father’s church, Jones Chapel AME Zion Methodist Church, where she served as a treasurer until she was in her mid-80s. In her professional career, Annie became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and worked for Manor Care Nursing Home in Adelphi, Maryland. She loved tending to the care and needs of her patients. Later, while living in Manassas Virginia, Annie opened her own daycare, opening her home to not only to her family, but community that needed childcare services. In her spare time, Annie loved cooking some of her favorite dishes, listening to and singing her favorite gospel songs, planting flowers, gardening fresh produce, and taking care of family. Annie’s calling in life included the gift of hospitality, as well as taking care of many people, including children who were not her own. If you stopped by the Laskey home day or night, you could always expect Annie to offer a warm plate of her delicious cooking and a comfortable place to rest your head. She was a woman of her word and said exactly what she meant. Annie Laskey is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, James; brother, Joseph Milliner, (Sarita) ; sister, Maxine Fields; children: Melba Lawrence (Allen), Edward (Ernestine), Gwen Thompson (Kenny), Ivory, Darrell, Carl (Darcel), Pamela Powell (Stacey), Wanda Barbour (Calvin) Theresa Hollowell (Michael), and Antionette Benton (Jerome); 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends. Annie will be missed by all who knew, loved, and crossed paths with her unforgettable and loving spirit.
