Mr. Henry Douglas “Enoch” Gill was born on April 24, 1942 to the late Freeman Gill Sr. and Elzena Bowen Gill in Elmore County, Alabama. He committed his life to Christ at an early age and joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Elmore, Alabama. He graduated from Sandtown High School in Millbrook, Alabama. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and completed two years. He also served in the Vietnam War during his tenure in the military, and received an honorable discharge. He was united in holy matrimony to Mary Anna Townsend Gill on November 12, 1966 and from their union, two beautiful children were born. He worked at Brockway Glass Company from 1966-1987. Later, he became a farmer. He and his brother Willie started the Gill Brothers’ farming business. He worked as a farmer for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Elmore County Agricultural Cooperative Extension and served as Minority Advisor to the Elmore County Farm Service Agency Committee. He was a devoted member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Elmore, Alabama where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher, and Deacon. He served faithfully until God called him home on Friday, October 27, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Freeman Gill, Sr. and Elzena Bowen Gill, one brother Freeman Gill, Jr.; five sisters Louise Gill, Martha Nelson, Bernice Powell, Annie Pinkard and Earlene Walker. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife Mary Gill; two children, Alethea Miranda Gill Hardy (Rennie) of Birmingham, AL, Bryant Kenneth Gill Sr. (WaShunda) of Birmingham, AL, ; one brother Willie Gill (Katrina) of Wetumpka, AL and one sister Mary Atkinson of Detroit, MI; one brother in-law WIllie G. (Amanda) Townsend of Wetumpka, Al; one sister in-law Evelyn Townsend of Montgomery, AL; five grandchildren Bryant Gill Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Ayron Hardy (Laurel) of Tampa, FL.; Shelby Hardy, Kaitlyn Gill, and Kennedy Gill of Birmingham, AL; one great granddaughter Calani Gill of Atlanta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
