Murla Barnes

Mrs. Murla “Marla” Faye Barnes was born on April 5, 1953 in the state of Missouri to Aloyse George and the late John George. She spent most of her childhood in the Gossum Switch Community, located in Wetumpka, AL. She attended the Wetumpka Elementary and High Schools. Marla Married Herbert Barnes as a young adult and moved to Detroit Michigan, where she resided for many years. She returned to Alabama to live in the mid 90s. She lived with Aloyse George in Gossum switch for several years. Five years ago, she purchased a home in Montgomery, AL. and lived there until she passed away. Marla had a passion for artistic endeavors. She made purses, clothes, pillows, jewelry, wigs and much more. She also did picture images set in wood. She loved to set up a booth to sell her merchandise at sales or vendor events around the area. She was adventurous and well traveled. She often said she had been to every state in the United States except for four. She was feisty and straight forward. Some would say bossy, but that was her personal and most people got used to her ways. She always tried to be a productive member of society. She worked for many years mostly in factories and caregiver positions. Her last job was as caregiver for her own mother until she became ill and was unable to do so. Marla was a dedicated daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was preceded in death by her father, John George; One sister, Demetrius George; Two Brothers, Clyde Junior and Angelo George. Marla leaves to cherish her memories: Her Mother, Aloyse George; four sisters, Jennie McQueen, of Birmingham, AL Connie (David) Dillard, of Montgomery, AL, Alibaba George of Louisville Kentucky, Evangelist Teresa Lokey of Louisville Kentucky; two brothers, Enos George (Jackie) of Elmore, AL and Michael George of Panama City, FL. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. A special friend Charo and a special cousin, Fifty.
