Mrs. Julia Mae Smith

Julia Mae Smith, a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, formally from Elmore County passed away on June 8, 2021. Graveside services will be held Sat. June 19,2021 @ 11am at the Wall Street AME Zion Church Cemetary. With Hillside Memorial & Gardens directing. Julia Mae Smith (nee: Brooks) was born on November 20, 1924, in Tallassee, Alabama to the late Deaster and Charity Brooks. She was the youngest of 12 siblings. She was preceded in death by her siblings One who passed at birth, Earnest Brooks, James Brooks, Smith Brooks, Palmer Brooks, Deaster Brooks Jr., Robert (Rivers) Brooks, Horace Brooks, Buford Brooks, Celestine Henry, and Carrie Williams. Julia Mae Smith was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Wesley Smith from this union there was 13 children. Julia Mae Smith who was known as Madea to many, moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1964. She enjoyed helping others, so she started her career in the healthcare field. She was filled with Holy Ghost under Bishop Downs of Burress Temple. She enjoyed passing out candy to the children in the church. Her heart and home was always open to everyone. She loved cooking, traveling, collecting knick-knacks, and spending time with family. Often times she would sneak gifts to others to put a smile on their face. Singing and humming brought her joy. One of her favorite songs to sing was “Jesus Never Fails”. She was loving, patient, and compassionate to all who crossed her path. Our heavenly father now holds close to his heart, “his child” Julia Mae Smith who departed this life Tuesday, June 8, 2021, to be with the Lord. She leaves not to mourn her memory but to rejoice in her living; Rebecca Smith, who preceded her in death, and Charles (Jelma proceeded him in death) (Patricia) Smith of Tallasee, Alabama, Virginia (William) Burton, Wesley Smith, James Smith, Carolyn Smith, Gary (Lavern) Smith, Roger Smith, Elaine Smith, Stanley Smith, Ricky Smith, Maenette Smith, and Deborah Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio. Sixty-one Grandchildren, a host of Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a mother to James Riley of Notasulga, Alabama, Ricky Julious, who proceeded her in death, Shantay Smith, Alonzo Stallworth, Lil Gary Smith as well as several of her Grandchildren and others in the Lockland and Lincoln Heights Community.
